Young Persons Risk Assessments - AD-HOC ASSESSMENT

Regulation 3 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 requires that an employer shall not employ a young person (under the age of 18 years) unless he has conducted or reviewed a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to the young person

Regulation 10 further requires that a copy of such an assessment be provided to the parents or guardians of the young person.

A risk assessment shall be completed by the relevant line manager for employees under the age 18 and copies of the assessment provided to the young person.

When notified that an employee has commenced work who is under 18 the line manager should complete the assessment and provide a copy to the young person.

Copies of the assessment should be discussed with the young person prior to their commencing work.

The assessment shall be reviewed should there be any significant changes to the workplace or role of the young person.
